Peptic Ulcer

Definition

  • a defect in the gastric or duodenal mucosa that extends through the muscularis mucosa into the deeper layers of the wall.
  • Duodenal ulcer (DU) - commonly occur at the first part of duodenum
  • Gastric ulcer (GU) - common occur at lesser curvature
  • Etiology: H. pylori, NSAIDs, smoking, genetic factors, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
